Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman Is Launching A J.C. Penney Line Of Prom Dresses Called “Pearl”
Project Runway: All Stars judge Georgina Chapman has a brand-new project—dressing the girls of the world for prom night. The Marchesa designer is teaming up with J.C. Penney to create a line of prom dresses called Pearl by Georgina Chapman.
“It’s got a slightly different attitude, a younger attitude, but it all comes from me,” Chapman told Women’s Wear Daily. “I wanted it to be fun. So a young girl can put on a dress and imagine she’s about to have an incredible night out.”
The line of formal wear and special occasion dresses will be totally affordable and range between $70 to $100, which is way below the range the high-end designer is used to. “I have really enjoyed this challenge,” the designer said of the collection which will include a few pricier items around $250. “It’s amazing what Penney’s can achieve at a price point. There’s corsetry involved, beautiful laces, beautiful prints. It retains the same sensibility and design aesthetic. I really wanted to reach a larger demographic and larger audience.”
Pearl by Georgina Chapman hits J.C. Penney stores worldwide on March 1. From Ciara and Kerry Washington to Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna, check out some of the stars that have worn Georgina’s designs on their big night. Will you treasure “Pearl?”
