Ricky Gervais Brings Back The Office Character For Charity

British comedian Ricky Gervias revealed this week that he will bring back his most famous character for an upcoming charity event. Paper company manager David Brent, from the original UK version of The Office, will star in a short for the children’s charity Comic Relief.

Gervais released a trailer, teasing that for the last decade, Brent has gotten involved in music management. It doesn’t take long for Brent to express some signature awkward racial insensitivity, singing an original reggae song in (poorly) accented scatting.

The BBC also reports that the character has supposedly given up the paper business, and funds his musical dreams by selling cleaning products door-to-door.

Gervais has appeared on the American version of The Office as Brent, but aside from that, last portrayed the character in 2003 in a UK Christmas special.

The skit will be a part of Comic Relief’s largest event, Red Nose Day, which often draws high-level comic talent. Last year, Flight Of The Conchords (Bret Mackenzie and Jemaine Clement) and a roster of New Zealand musical all stars produced a hilarious song based on equally hilarious interviews with children for the charity.

What do you think? Are you excited about the return of David Brent?
