Lenny Kravitz has been replaced by former Law & Order star Jesse L. Martin in the upcoming Marvin Gaye biopic tentatively titled Sexual Healing. Jesse was originally attached to star in the film nearly five years ago, but dropped out after plans for the project stalled. Last November, Lenny was announced as the new lead, but we’re now back at square one, with Jesse again slated to take on the role of the legendary soul singer.

As I previously reported, Marvin’s family was incensed that the producers of Sexual Healing planned on centering the film around Marvin’s life during the early 80s, a period during which he lived in Europe while battling depression, financial issues, and drug addiction. But apparently, the project has been reworked to begin with Marvin’s attempt to get his career back on track with the assistance of British music promoter Freddy Cousaert. I am so excited for this film, and I finally feel that they’ve got the casting right!
