The NYPD has another controversial shooting death on their hands. On Saturday night, two undercover officers shot and killed 16-year-0ld Kimani Gray, claiming that he pointed a gun at them. But witnesses say the boy was unarmed and not threatening the officers.

According to police, two officers approached Kimani, known as Kiki, around 11:30pm in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn after seeing Gray “adjust his waistband” and “act suspiciously.” Some reports say the officers were “undercover,” some say “plainclothes,” and some just say  they were in an unmarked car.

Gray then allegedly raised a .38 handgun at the officers, who then opened fire. The officers shot at least six times; Gray did not fire.

NYPD reports that a gun was recovered from the scene.

However, two witness who say they were standing with Gray before he walked away told The Post that police opened fired quickly, as Gray pleaded with them to stop.

Gray’s sister says her brother did not own a gun, and was probably just adjusting his belt. Other relatives seemed to acknowledge he might have had one, with one “cousin” saying (in the Post article) he wishes he could have told Gray to get rid of it, and another source saying Gray was just holding it for a friend.
