Derrick Rose Should Take As Much Time As He Needs Before Returning To The Chicago Bulls
Everyone wants Derrick Rose to return to the basketball court for the Chicago Bulls right now. His teammates want him back. His coaches want him back. The NBA wants him back. Hell, I want him back! As a Bulls fan, it pains me to know that our best player hasn’t been on the court for the entire season. But, as of right now, it’s unclear when D-Rose will be back in action. It could be any day now. But, as of yesterday, he still didn’t want to announce anything definitively because, well, he doesn’t know when he’ll be back yet.
“It could be tomorrow,” he said, “and I feel like I could play the next game. Nobody knows but God. I really don’t know right now. I don’t want to place no percentage on it, but I just know that I’m close and I’m taking every day serious and just becoming a professional.”
That might upset some fans out there. But, you know what? I’m okay with it. And, this is why: The absolute last thing the Bulls need is for Rose to rush back out onto the court and injure himself because of it. Just the other night, New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert, who suffered a torn ACL just like Rose did last year, felt a “pop” in his knee and had to leave a game. That’s not to say that the same thing will happen to Rose when he returns. But, it should be noted that something like that could happen. So, why rush?
All indications are that Rose will be back at some point this season for the Bulls. It could be this weekend, it could be next week, or it could be next month. But, at some point, he will be back. And, whenever that day comes, I’ll be glad to see him out on the court again, because I really want him to return. But, as much as I want to see him, I’d much rather him do it on his own terms. It’s his knee, it’s his health, and it’s his life. So, there’s absolutely no need for him to compromise any of those things for the sake of getting back into the Bulls lineup. So, take all the time you want, Derrick. You deserve it.
