Is Jordan Brand Trying Too Hard With These Air Jordan 1 Retro ’93 “Bugs Bunny” Sneakers?

Submitted by on March 30, 2013 – 3:46 pm7 Comments

This year, we’ve seen our fair share of Air Jordan 1 retro releases. From the Air Jordan 1 “Black/Varsity Royal” to the Air Jordan 1 “Cool Grey,” there have been a number of different Air Jordan 1 retro sneakers that have dropped in 2013. So, it’s pretty clear that the Jordan Brand is intent on celebrating their first signature sneaker this year. But, did they just go to the well one too many times by deciding to release the Air Jordan 1 Retro ’93 “Bugs Bunny”? With all of the heat that they’ve already given us this year, did they really need to go and release a sneaker that patterns itself after the Air Jordan 8?

We would argue that they are making a mistake with this one. Now, don’t get it twisted. There are some redeeming qualities about the Air Jordan 1 Retro ’93 “Bugs Bunny” that we like. From the grey hue that’s used on the heel of the sneaker to the perforated texture used on the upper part of the sneaker, there are certain elements of the shoe that we like. But, on the tongue of the AJ1 Retro ’93 “Bugs Bunny,” the Jordan Brand chose to take the same exact design that we’ve seen time and time again on the Air Jordan 8. And, it feels a little like cheating. There are so many things that you could do to the AJ1. Why use the AJ8′s iconic feature on the tongue?

Maybe we’re wrong here, though. Maybe others will enjoy the fact that the Jordan Brand has taken the influences of the Air Jordan 8 and added them to the Air Jordan 1. If so, these will be available next week on April 6 through select Jordan Brand accounts. But, if you’re hesitant about buying a pair of these, you’re not alone. We suggest that you just hang tight. Because, if we’ve learned anything this year, it’s that there will be another Air Jordan 1 dropping sometime soon. And, it’s probably worth skipping this one so that you can pick up that one later.
