Lil Wayne: “I’m An Epileptic”
Lil Wayne has revealed the health condition that landed him in the hospital after suffering multiple seizures earlier this month. In his first interview since his release from Cedars-Sinai hospital, the “No Worries” rapper told Power 106 In Los Angeles on Thursday night that he suffers from epilepsy. “The bad news is I’m an epileptic. I’m prone to seizures,” he explained. “This isn’t my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh seizure. I’ve had a bunch of seizures, ya’ll just never hear about them.”
Reports that Wayne was at death’s door were vehemently denied by his camp during his hospitalization, but in his interview with Power, the 30-year-old hip-hop star admitted that his condition was so bad, he “could’ve died.” “This time it got real bad ’cause I had three of them in a row and on the third one, my heart rate went down to like 30 percent,” Wayne said. “Basically, I could’ve died, so that is why it was so serious….But the reason being for the seizures is just plain stress, no rest, overworking myself. That’s just typical me though.”
Although Wayne’s fondness for “sizzurp”, a combination of cough syrup with codeine and soda or punch, is widely reported as the cause of his seizures and hospitalization, the issue isn’t addressed during his interview with Power. Disturbingly, Wayne makes multiple references to codeine in his latest album, I Am Not A Human Being 2.
