Playwright Patrick Blake Announces Freedom, The Hip-Hop Musical Starring Maino
On Monday night, Carnegie PR hosted ‘Cocktails and Conversation’, a private, red carpet press event with playwright Patrick Blake, rapper/actor Maino, breakout actress Felecia Gorham, and lyricist/composer Chi-Ill for the official announcement of Freedom, the Hip-Hop Musical. The evening included a VIP cocktail hour with Twenty Grand Vodka and hors d’ oeuvres provided by catering sponsor Kitchen Cray, followed by a special presentation including selections from Freedom. Guests then mixed and mingled while enjoying the sounds of DJ Tedsmooth and tasty desserts from Sweet Generation.
Freedom, the Hip-Hop Musical (book by Patrick Blake, music & lyrics by Chi-Ill) will address the prevalent issue of false imprisonment. According to the Innocence Project, DNA evidence alone has uncovered 238 wrongful convictions since 2000. Freedom will help bring this ugly truth to life using the dominant contemporary musical form, rap. Blake wishes to inform, empower and educate while integrating the audience by changing the stories that theater tells. Freedom, the Hip-Hop Musical embodies new and prevalent stories for a new audience.
Attendees at Monday night’s event include Par-City, AZ, Wyclef Jean, Audubon (MTV’s Washington Heights), and comedian Young Jack Thriller. Check out pictures taken at the event below.
