Jimmy Rollins Honored Jackie Robinson Yesterday By Wearing These Air Jordan VI Rings “42″ PE Cleats

Unfortunately, the bombings that took place at the Boston Marathon dominated the news yesterday. And we say “unfortunately” because we wish they had never taken place. There were a lot of great things that went on in the world of sports yesterday that deserved to be covered that didn’t get covered because of the bombings. One of them was the fact that it was Jackie Robinson Day, a day that should have been even more special this year because of the fact that the movie 42 came out last Friday. And, despite the tragedy that took place in Boston, it’s important to point out that it was a special day for Major League Baseball.

For starters, every single MLB player who took part in a game yesterday wore the jersey number 42. It’s not the first time that MLB has allowed players to wear No. 42. But it’s a tradition that we’re always glad to see come out on Jackie Robinson Day. Some players took things a step further to celebrate Jackie Robinson’s legacy, though. One such player was Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins who wore a pair of Air Jordan VI Rings “42″ PE cleats on the field yesterday. Although the Phils usually wear red and white, Rollins switched things up for a day by rocking a pair of cleats that were Los Angeles Dodgers blue. Because Jackie Robinson played on the Brooklyn Dodgers, Rollins wanted to honor him by wearing these cleats. He also topped off the look by wearing a matching blue wristband.

The cleats will not be available in stores and we doubt that more than a few pairs of these particular cleats actually exist. But it was really great of Rollins to remember Jackie Robinson by wearing them. We also commend MLB for allowing players to express their appreciation for Jackie Robinson by wearing special cleats, wristbands, and other accessories. With all the bad things that we see taking place in the world, it’s good to know that there is some good taking place, too. Props to Rollins for proving that to us by doing something as small as switching up his sneakers for a day.
