A Bunch of New York City Drug Dealers Just Landed In Jail Because Of Facebook & Instagram

A little tip for those people out there who include “drug dealing” as one of their main sources of income: Do not—we repeat, DO NOT!—rant and rave about your occupation on Facebook, Instagram, or any other form of social media. That should really go without saying. If you’re doing something illegal in order to make money, why would you want to publicize it? But that’s exactly what a large group of New York City drug dealers who call themselves the “Blocc Boyz” did recently…and it just landed them in jail.

Although other factors played a role in the “Blocc Boyz” getting busted by police recently, the door-to-door drug dealers routinely sold cocaine to New Yorkers and eventually got busted for it because of their brazen use of technology. For instance, after Hurricane Sandy hit, the dealers sent out a mass text message letting hundreds of customers know that they were still in business. They also indicated that they would be using the federal aid they received from the government after Hurricane Sandy in order to re-up on their supply of drugs. And, more recently, several of the drug dealers partied at a strip club called Perfection in Queens and took photos and videos of themselves throwing large amounts of money around. Those photos and videos were then uploaded to social media sites like Facebook and Instagram, which allowed police to locate them and later arrest them.

As of right now, more than 40 men and women who were down with the “Blocc Boyz” stand accused of selling more than $2 million worth of drugs in the last two years. They also stand accused of making more than 75 hand-to-hand deliveries to undercover cops during that time period. So there’s a good chance that many of them will spend a long, long time behind bars in the near future. And you know what they have to thank for it? The diligent work of police—and social media sites. What a way to get busted and go down in flames. You guys deserve everything you get, if for no other reason than you were stupid enough to do your dirt on social media sites. WTF were you thinking?
