Same Therapy Dogs From Newton Comforted Boston Runners
Sit. Stay. Heal.
The Huffington Post reported yesterday that golden retrievers from the Lutheran Church Charities “K-9 Comfort Dogs” will visit Boston-area hospitals, churches, and other locations to comfort victims and witnesses of Monday’s Boston Marathon bombings.
“Animals have an uncanny ability … to discern that you and I have sadness and distress,” Dutzmann said. “Rather than shying away from it, they’re attracted to it. They will literally go in a classroom of children and literally find the child most afraid of something.”
The Chicago-area charity says that two of the dogs- Addy and Maggie- were still in Newton, CT, comforting victims of that town’s shooting. Three more- Luther, Ruthie, and 6-month-old Isaiah- were flown in this week. All of the dogs have spent time with the Newtown families.
One report on Reddit stated that a comfort dog greeted runners finally picking up their bags yesterday.
