Rita Ora Gets Mousy On ELLE And Reveals The One Thing “That Should Never Be Allowed” In Fashion
With her signature red lips and blonde hair, Rita Ora is already a fashion icon in her own right. But the Roc Nation artist channels another fashion icon for ELLE‘s ”Women In Music” Issue. Dressed in a only a black Calvin Klein bra, Rita evokes Mickey Mouse‘s main squeeze Minnie in a gorgeous pair of custom-made sparkly rodent ears crafted by Philip Treacy.
Besides Minnie, Rita counts the Spice Girls as one of her other childhood idols. “I just remember watching them—not even meeting them—and I was completely mesmerized,” she says. “It feels great to meet someone who is not human, but is.”
Photographed by Thomas Whiteside, Ora looks stunning in everything she wears for Elle from Chanel to Valentino and admits that she, and not her label, decides what she wears at all times. “That should never be allowed!” Rita says of the idea of anyone on her team trying to craft her image. “It’s like somebody telling you what to sing.”
The 22-year-old knows what she wants when it comes to making a fashion statement and she will go to great lengths to get it. “I went up to [Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman] and said, ‘Hi, I’m Rita. Nice to meet you. I need to wear your dress,’” Ora says of how she garnered the crimson gown she wore to this year’s MTV’s Europe Music Awards. “She was like, ‘What dress?’ They’ve got 10 million dresses. I said, ‘Look, I have your dress as the screen saver on my phone. This red dress needs to be on my body.’”
