Celebrities (and their partners) are still driving drunk and getting arrested by police but at least in Reese Witherspoon‘s case, a genuine-sounding apology has been issued straight away.

The self-described “good” girl was caught riding dirty in Atlanta over the weekend with husband Jim Toth. Toth was driving a silver Ford Fusion and police spied the couple weaving in and out of traffic lanes, pulling them over and arresting Reese for disorderly conduct (she was reportedly giving the cops a hard time and saying things like, “You’re about to find out who I am! You are going to be on national news”) while slapping Toth with a DUI.

The couple now has hearings set for May 22 and 23rd, respectively, but Reese’s just-released statement about the incident is likely what’s going to spare her from a huge amount of public embarrassment. Unlike her Hollywood peers, Reese has immediately come forward with a very honest apology citing a momentary lapse of judgment.

“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behavior.”
