New Music: Janelle Monae & Erykah Badu Reign Supreme On “Q.U.E.E.N.”
Janelle Monae is prepared to let em’ eat cake! The tuxedo temptress teams up with funky singer Erykah Badu on the bouncy track “Q.U.E.E.N.” off her forthcoming album The Electric Lady.
“This song is inspired by private conversations she and I have had and continue to have,” Monae told Billboard. “She’s a great friend to me; she’s like a big sister and it’s a song about private dialogue that she and I have had.”
Set for release on Atlantic Records, the song serves as Monae’s first single since her 2010 album The ArchAndroid. On the jam, the ladies banter back and forth about female empowerment whilst singing on the chorus: “Am I a freak for dancing around? Am I a freak for getting down? I’m coming up, don’t cut me down. Yeah, I wanna be.”
Listen to the royal tune below that Monae explained “is meant to make you JAM. DANCE. FUNK OUT. and dialogue later…” What do you have to say about this new single?
