Sneakers Worn During The 2013 Boston Marathon Helped Create This Amazing Boston Magazine Cover
Although it’s been almost two weeks now since the tragic Boston Marathon bombing took place, the city of Boston continues to grieve for those who were killed, maimed, and seriously injured during the blast. The suspects in the bombing have both been dealt with—one was killed, while the other was captured and remains hospitalized—but that doesn’t mean that Beantown isn’t still trying to come to grips with what took place in their city. They’re strong, though, and they’re using many different coping mechanisms to try and move past the tragedy. And one of those mechanisms involves using the local media in order to prove just how hard they’re going to work to pay tribute to those who were affected by the tragedy while simultaneously starting the healing process.
Just check out the new cover of Boston Magazine for proof of that. They just released their May issue and the cover is absolutely stunning. It features dozens and dozens of sneakers that were worn during the Boston Marathon. They are positioned to make up the shape of a heart and they have the words, “We Will Finish The Race,” smack dap in the middle of the large heart. The fact that so many marathon runners donated their sneakers in order to help make this happen speaks volumes about how strong and united the city of Boston is right now. And it also shows how the entire rest of the world is working hard to help Boston out, as many of these sneakers no doubt belonged to runners from different parts of the United States and other parts of the world.
In addition to the striking cover, the May issue of Boston Magazine features stories inspired by what took place at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. But it’s the cover that really speaks the loudest to us. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But, in this particular instance, we would have to disagree with that cliche. This picture is worth so much more than a thousand words. It’s truly priceless and it offers a glimpse into exactly what the city of Boston is made out of. Good luck as you continue to push forward, Boston. You will finish the race.
