Fantasia Talks Side Effects Of You In Upscale Magazine: “I Want Peace Of Mind”
After criticizing JET magazine for using an old photo of her on the front of their March 2013 issue, Fantasia is all smiles and seemingly ready for a fresh start on the cover of next month’s Upscale magazine. Shot by famed celebrity photographer Derek Blanks, the American Idol alum dishes on the inspiration behind her new album Side Effects of You.
“Everything that I’ve talked about and put out there, it’s helped someone,” Fantasia says in the May 2013 issue. “It might not have helped the person who had something smart to say or had a joke or whatever, but there’s 10 other people that’s inspired by my story. So I wouldn’t change anything. I’m just going to continue to be that person that is open and honest because that’s me, that’s Fantasia.”
Since winning American Idol back in 2004, the 28-year-old singer has suffered some career hiccups, including her controversial relationship with married beau Antwaun Cook and a suicide attempt. But the singer admits that she has learned from her mistakes and will continue to keep it real with her fans.
“The things that I go through, people go through everyday,” she said. “I’ve had some rough times and some moments that I wouldn’t say I’m very proud of, but I can say that for me, I’m glad that I was able to let it out. The first thing I want is peace, peace of mind. Being able to be comfortable in my own skin, being able to say ‘this is what I want to do’ instead of trying to please everybody else.I believe that’s when we become not real, that’s when we become fake—when we try to make things look like it’s just so perfect.”
