If Derrick Rose Is Going To Make A Comeback This Season, He’s Going To Do It Tonight
Do you think there’s any chance of Derrick Rose returning to the Chicago Bulls lineup this season? Do you think he’s serious when he says that he could be back any day now? Are you a Bulls fan holding out hope for D-Rose’s return? If you answered yes to any of these three questions, then know this: If he’s going to return to the Bulls this season, he’s going to do it tonight. If you don’t see him on the court this evening when the Bulls take on the Miami Heat in Game 3 of their best-of-7 series, then you can go ahead and consider him finished for the year.
I say this because it almost makes too much sense for him to come back tonight. For starters, the Bulls are coming off an embarrassing performance on Wednesday night. After stealing Game 1 in Miami, the Bulls got destroyed by the Heat 115-78 in Game 2. So the Bulls need a shot of adrenaline to give them a boost in Game 3 and Rose would provide it by playing, even if he only gives them a few minutes of playing time. Secondly, because of the blowout, there’s no one out there expecting a whole lot from the Bulls in Game 3. After raising some eyebrows in Game 1, the Bulls came back down to Earth on Wednesday night and lowered peoples’ expectations for the rest of the series. So, in a lot of ways, the pressure is off the Bulls at this point, which would make Rose’s comeback a little easier than if the series was, say, tied 2-2. And, lastly, if Rose came back tonight, he would be returning home for what could be the Bulls’ final home games of the season. So he would be making a statement and laying the groundwork for a full-strength return to the Bulls next season, even if he couldn’t play much. He would also avoid being criticized all offseason long by playing at least a limited role in the Heat series.
I for one don’t think Rose is coming back this season. I think if he was going to come back, he would have done it already during the playoffs. But if he’s waiting for the right opportunity to present itself in order to make his return, he couldn’t ask for a better time than Game 3. The United Center will be rocking tonight and it will damn near explode if Rose does come back. So if he’s really planning on doing it during the playoffs, I would fully expect him to do it tonight.
