Rihanna Talks About Her “Gangster” River Island Summer Collection In A Behind-The-Scenes Video
Rihanna promises everyone “will find something they love” in her new 2013 Summer Collection for River Island.
The Barbadian beauty, who debuted her first capsule collection for River Island at London Fashion Week this past February, is hard at work putting the finishing touches on her summer line and revealed her inspiration for the looks in a new behind-the-scenes video released by River Island on YouTube.
“I just wanted to make stuff that I want to wear because at the end of the day that’s what got me into designing,” she says. “I love everything here.”
With the help of co-designer Adam Selman and BFF/photographer Melissa Forde, Rihanna perfected a collection that features lots of floral prints and tie-dye. “The floral, I think, is very timeless,” she explained to Selman while sifting through the racks. “Usually it’s very chic, very chick, very flirty, and fun, and that’s what I wanted. But I don’t want it to be typical floral with bright colors, I wanted it to be gangster—still a little more muted, so you can wear it with rock ‘n roll stuff. I love the simple dresses. They are just so sexy. All the stuff that’s made of cotton, that’s the stuff I am going to live in all the time.”
Rihanna also kept her girl entourage in mind when crafting the collection, making sure there were pieces for every body type. “I needed to make clothes for fat days,” she laughed. We’re not sure Rihanna could have a fat day but we admire the “Phresh Off The Runway” singer for thinking of ladies with physiques curvier than her own.
Rih-Rih’s sophomore collection for the British high street brand River Island hits stores and RiverIsland.com on May 25. Press play and go behind-the-scenes of the design process now. Will you be buying it?
