Fast & Furious 6, The Hangover Part III, And Even Iron Man 3 Make For Record-Setting Memorial Day Weekend

It was a record-setting weekend at the box office. Though two fast-paced movies battled (mainly) for the attention of young men, Fast & Furious 6 was the clear winner.

The latest entry in the car heist franchise, which has bizarrely improved with age, raked in $158 million domestically, and over $280 million internationally.

The weekend’s other big debut, The Hangover Part III, was far behind in second, pulling in a respectable $53 million for the four-day weekend. It was probably not helped by poor reviews, earning a 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. (Fast 6 currently has a 72% Fresh rating on the same site.)

All together, the weekend’s films (including these two, the animated Epic, Star Trek Into Darkness, and others) earned $322 million over the Memorial Day weekend, an all-time high.

Iron Man 3 rounded out the top five, which isn’t bad for a movie that’s been out for almost a month. But the Marvel action flick marked some other major milestones: it has brought in $1.142 billion worldwide, making it one of the highest grossing movies of all time.

Have you seen any of the films? Do they deserve these huge box office numbers?
