Chewbacca Actor Stopped At Airport For Lightsaber Cane
Wookiees may be able to easily repel an invasion of Storm Troopers, but the Transportation Security Administration is another matter. This week, Star Wars actor Peter Mayhew- the man behind the Chewbacca costume- was detained at a Denver airport security check for carrying a suspicious accessory: his cane, which is shaped like the fictional weapon, the lightsaber.
The actor was reportedly returning to his Texas home from a ComicCon in Colorado. Some of the original tweets seem to have been deleted, but The Hollywood Reporter writes that Mayhew originally said the TSA ”won’t allow me through the airport with me cane!”
Mayhew later tweeted a photograph of himself waiting, looking annoyed, while two TSA employees idly examine the offending cane.
Finally, Mayhew’s digital protests seem to have payed off:
Magic words to TSA are not “please” or “thank you”.. It’s “Twitter”.. cane released to go home.. twitter.com/TheWookieeRoar…

Mayhew is 69 years old, and once stood at a peak height of 7’3″ tall. He portrayed Chewbacca in all three original Star Wars films, as well as Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
Hopefully, the TSA learned an important lesson: “Let the Wookiee win.”
