Scandal Star Kerry Washington Brings The “Sweet Heat” On The Cover Of EMMY
Kerry Washington may be the star of one of the hottest shows on television. But the way she tells it, she never thought her future was in Hollywood. The 36-year-old lead of the ABC series Scandal assumed she’d follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a college professor.
“Or a shrink,” Washington told Mark Morrison as part of her cover story, “The Professional,” for EMMY. “I had a real curiosity about how people become the people they are.”
Thankfully, Kerry was destined for bigger and better things.
Still, despite her success, Kerry admits that becoming an actress was never about the fame. “I realized there were lots of people who made a living as actors who may never be on the cover of a magazine, but still had fulfilling careers. And I decided, ‘I’m going to go for it.’ But I never really saw myself as someone who would be that girl on the cover of anything,” she admitted. “I thought that to be an actress, you had to want to be famous. And that wasn’t something I was interested in.”
