Apple Trademarks “iWatch” In Japan

Apple rumors often come from nothing and end in nothing, but it might be time to start believing this one. Just months after gossip began circulating that Apple was making a “smart watch,” Bloomberg reports that the company has filed to trademark the name “iWatch” in Japan.

In February, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal both reported that Apple was developing a watch that would use iOS. Adding a bit of support to these rumors was that fact that Corning, Apple’s glass manufacturer, had recently announced new products that could be beneficial in wearable technology.

The Bloomberg article also notes that CEO Tim Cook is under pressure to boost flagging stock prices; and that competitors Samsung and Sony are either developing or currently selling similar products.

Alternatively, the move to trademark the name could be a purely protective measure: Apple could be preemptively guarding itself from imitators trying to sell an “iWatch.”

What do you think- would you wear an Apple smart watch?
