Lil Wayne’s Protégé Widner “Flow” DeGruy Arrested For First Degree Murder
Young Money rapper Flow is a little further from his dreams.
Born Widner DeGruy, the 21-year-old New Orleans native was arrested and booked on first-degree murder charges and two counts of armed robbery, said St. Bernard Parish Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann. According to Nola.com, DeGruy “was arrested in the Oakland, Calif., area recently by a U.S. Marshal’s task force and was returned to Chalmette on Thursday for prosecution after waiving extradition.”
DeGruy had fled to California after arrest warrants alleged that he had shot at, and narrowly missed, an eastern St. Bernard man he knew on April 29, Pohlmann said. He allegedly had beaten and robbed that man and another eastern St. Bernard man of cash and their cellphones.
Also known by the nickname Esho Hero, DeGruy is being held at the St. Bernard Parish Prison in lieu of a $350,000 bond. No motive for the DeGruy’s alleged acts of violence has been released. Neither have the names of the victims for fear of retaliation.
DeGruy first rose to fame in his hometown, releasing three mixtapes with his group The Flamez aka Flame Gang Muzik . Flow released his first solo mixtape entitled Heroic Volume 1 in 2009, garnering the attention of Lil Wayne who then featured him on his Sorry 4 The Wait mixtape. He was signed to Young Money Entertainment in 2012 and was said to be working on Heroic Volume 2.
