Why Did It Take So Long For Converse To Give Wiz Khalifa His Own Sneaker Collection?

We’ve got a question for all of your sneakerheads out there: Have you ever seen Wiz Khalifa wear anything except Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers? No, really, have you? There’s a reason why Wiz’s faithful following—and his record label—is called Taylor Gang, after all. It’s because Wiz has shown lots and lots and LOTS of love to the Chuck Taylor silhouette over the years. We’re sure there are some photos of him out there wearing Nikes or Reeboks or something other than Converses. But when we think about Wiz Khalifa, we instantly think about the Chuck Taylor sneaker. He’s made it a part of his identity.

With that in mind, it’s a little bit surprising to think about the fact that Wiz has never had his own Converse sneaker. You would think that, by now, someone at Converse would have approached Wiz about starting some kind of sneaker collection. But they haven’t. Well, they haven’t…until now. Earlier this week, Converse put out a video, and it showcases a new Converse collection that Wiz Khalifa will be wearing now and well into the future. It features—what else?—a bunch of Chuck Taylors that Wiz seemingly played a part in helping design. You can check out the video here:

The sneakers that you see in the video—and a whole bunch more—will be available at select Converse retailers beginning on August 23. Stay tuned for more details about the Wiz Khalifa Collection by Converse in the near future. Are you glad to see Wiz get his own sneaker collection? Will you be picking up a pair from the collection when it hits stores? And why do you think it took Converse so long to approach Wiz about getting his own sneaker? Once you’ve seen the video, make sure you leave us a comment below and let us know.
