Karlie Kloss and Daft Punk are street chic in a new futuristic fashion shoot shot for the August 2013 issue of Vogue.

The 20-year-old Victoria Secret model teamed up with the Parisian music duo Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, for a head-turning walk down West 42nd Street in New York City dressed in “full-robot-helmet regalia,” and it wasn’t long before the mob gathered blocking traffic in the Big Apple. After a city-high shoot featuring nighttime flare, the fellas removed the masks and talked about the inspirations behind their latest album, Random Access Memories, which debuted at No. 1 in 31 countries.

“We consider what we do a Wizard of Oz situation,” Bangalter said while grabbing lunch at Gemma, the restaurant in Manhattan’s Bowery Hotel. “It’s one guy behind a curtain pushing all the buttons.”

Still, the duo count a number of guys as their inspirations, including Quentin Tarantino, Maurizio Cattelan, Saint Laurent, and Daft Punk designer Hedi Slimane as well as current collaborators Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Julian Casablancas, and disco legends Giorgio Moroder and Nile Rodgers.

“In 20 years, some of the collaborators on this album might not be here anymore,” de Homem-Christo says. “It’s an opportunity for us to pay them homage.”
