Here Are The Reebok Kamikaze II Mid “Letter Of Intent” Shawn Kemp Would Have Worn In College

Back in the late 1980s, Shawn Kemp agreed to attend the University of Kentucky to play for the storied Wildcats. He signed a national letter of intent and had every intention of attending UK before starting his NBA career. But then, in early 1989, Kemp had a change of heart. Rather than attend college, he decided to do something that very few players have done over the course of time; he decided to jump straight from high school into the NBA. So Kemp never suited up a single game for Kentucky, and we were all left wondering “What if?” with regards to his college career.

Reebok has provided an answer for that “What if?” question with their latest sneaker release. For the first time ever, they’ve based one of their classic sneakers on a hypothetical situation and created a Reebok Kamikaze II Mid “Letter of Intent” that looks like a sneaker Kemp would have worn if he had attended Kentucky. The blue/white Kamikaze II is inspired by the Kentucky uniforms, and the “Letter of Intent” pays homage to Kemp’s college of choice, even though he never actually went there. It’s a pretty dope take on a dope sneaker that breathes a bit of new life into the Kamikaze II.

With the beginning of August already loaded with Reebok Shaq releases, Reebok is going to wait until August 16 to unveil the Kamikaze II Mid “Letter of Intent” to the world. But when they do, you can guarantee that it will go fast. It will retail for $100 and will be available through a variety of different Reebok retailers as well as reebok.com.

What do you think about the “What if?” Kamikaze II that Reebok has created here? Even though it’s not one of the original Kamikaze colorways, do you like that Reebok is releasing it? Will you be picking it up? And do you think it’s a sign of things to come as sneaker companies find new ways to re-release old sneakers? Let us know in the comments section below.
