Beyoncé may be naturally gorgeous, but even King Bey needs some help putting her best face forward. Enter Sir John (did you really expect the Queen B to have her face beat by someone without a royal moniker?!).

The make-up artist is currently traveling the globe alongside Beyonce on The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour and elevating the pop star’s beauty to epic proportions. He shared the inspiration behind her look on Beyonce’s official website recently. “For The Mrs. Carter Tour I drew beauty inspiration from Beyoncé’s own personal star quality being in the stratosphere,” he wrote on one vision board. “There’s a certain celestial radiance Beyoncé emanates on stage that I wanted to amplify. So in choosing colors and textures for makeup, my concentration focused on a balance of reflecting and absorbing light.”

Pulling references from “Film Noir, 60’s London, Cyber Beauty, Cosmic Constellations and Felines” and taking note of timeless beauties and screen icons like Sophia Loren, Twiggy and Diahann Caroll, the makeup artist manifested a look for Beyonce he believes is out of this world. “Each key look we collaborate on has a cosmic sensibility at the core,” Sir John revealed, “be it a dark winged shimmering eye that takes on the overall look of the night sky or an angelic ethereal approach that magnifies Beyoncé’s own brilliance.”

Check out Sir John’s vision boards below. Are you inspired to try any of the make-up looks you see?
