Is Fame Getting The Best Of LeBron James Right Now?

Being famous isn’t always as awesome as it seems. Just listen to any Drake song and you’ll hear about it. While it is cool to have millions of fans who sing your songs, watch all your movies, or cheer for you every time you throw down a slam dunk, it can also be incredibly taxing to get mobbed by people every single time you leave your house. It’s driven plenty of famous people out there nuts, and it’s caused famous people to do some really crazy things in order to try and regain some sense of normalcy. There are also quite a few famous people who would do anything just to not be famous for a day.

Recently, LeBron James revealed that he is suffering from his fame. And we actually can’t blame him for feeling the way he was feeling. LeBron has, after all, been in the national spotlight since he was a teenager. So we’re sure it can feel like the walls are closing in around him sometimes. But we saw a different side of LeBron than usual the other night when he took to his Facebook page to talk about how he was feeling about being famous on that particular night.

“Man it’s hard to go out and have a good time these days!” he wrote. “It’s part of my life. Wouldn’t change it anything (just saying). Been in the spotlight since I was 15. Sometimes u just wanna STOP!! But I refuse cause I have a commitment to the youth to inspire them!! That will keep me pushing forward and focused alone.”

After reading that, I couldn’t help but think about what it’s like to be LeBron. I’m sure most people will say, “Boo hoo, you’re rich and famous, deal with it,” after reading his Facebook post. But stop and think about it: Could you do what LeBron does? Could you live in the public spotlight, be the best in your particular field, stay out of trouble because you know everyone is watching you, and, most importantly, enjoy your life? It would certainly be a tough task. And when I sat back and thought about being LeBron, I thought away how I don’t think I could do it. It definitely doesn’t sound like a fun way to live.

What do you think about LeBron’s Facebook post? Do you think he should shut up and do what he has to do to deal with his fame? Or do you think we should all give famous people a little bit more slack because of everything that they have to deal with on a regular basis? Either way, it’s clear that famous people do suffer as a result of their fame every now and then. And LeBron James is perfect proof of that.
