Usher Speaks On Son’s Near Drowning
Usher is speaking out for the first time since his eldest son’s near drowning. The incident occurred on Monday after 5-year-old Usher Raymond V‘s arm become stuck in a pool drain when he jumped in to retrieve a toy. After the R&B superstar’s aunt and maid were unable to pull little Usher from the drain, two contractors working at the house came to the rescue. The 34-year-old “Climax” singer said in a statement, “I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family’s well-being.”
Usher also thanked the contractors, who also administered CPR to his son. “I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews,” Usher said. “They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”
In the days since the near tragedy, Usher’s ex-wife and little Usher’s mother, Tameka Raymond, requested an emergency hearing for today to review, and possibly revise, their custody arrangement (Usher has primary custody). This may get really ugly.
