No, you did not read that headline wrong! It really says that New Balance just created a new video for their new skate team. And we know exactly what you’re thinking right now: NEW BALANCE HAS A…A…A…SKATE TEAM?! It’s the same exact thing that we thought when we saw the video for the first time. When we think about the New Balance brand, we don’t typically think about skateboarding, skate teams, or, hell, anything to do with skating. New Balance has always been, more or less, focused on walking and running shoes. So a skate team? We have to admit that we didn’t see this coming.

That being said, we’re not really all that surprised to hear that New Balance is trying something new. They have, after all, conquered the walking and running worlds, which leads us to believe that they’re interested in venturing into other areas, too. Skating wouldn’t have been our first guess. But if they want to try and market that lane, they might have some success, especially when you see that they’ve rounded up skaters like PJ Ladd, Arto Saari, Levin Brown, and others for their first video. It’s a good first look at the New Balance skate team and gives us a few ideas about which direction New Balance is going to go in with their skate sneakers. Here is their video, which is called “A Place in the Sun”:

After seeing the clip, are you confident that New Balance will be able to produce a skate sneaker that is popular amongst skaters? Do you like the fact that New Balance is trying to get involved in the world of skating? Would you pay money for a New Balance skate sneaker—or would you stick to skating in one of the more reputable skate shoe companies? Let us know once you’ve watched the video. We think you might be surprised with what New Balance is trying to do with their new skate division.
