Elle Fanning wants you to believe that she’s just an ordinary 15-year-old girl…but she isn’t.

“It’s just what I do, you know?” the down-to-earth actress says. “Some kids go to soccer practice and play games after school. I just do movies.”

The teen and younger sister of actress Dakota Fanning has been acting since the age of 2 when most of us were playing with our Barbie Dolls when she played the younger version of Dakota in I Am Sam. Bit roles followed in Daddy Day Care, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Phoebe in Wonderland. And in 2011, Elle got her big break with a starring role as Alice Dainard in J. J. Abrams’ sci-fi-drama blockbuster Super 8. Now the bubbly blonde, who stars in 2014′s Maleficent opposite Angelina Jolie, is poised to be Hollywood’s newest It-Girl.

So when Vogue Australia decided to launch a younger edition for teens this year, titled Miss Vogue, the editors had only one little lady in mind. “Who is Miss Vogue? That was the question we asked ourselves when planning this inaugural issue,” said Miss Vogue Australia editor Alice Cavanagh. “There were some obvious answers and our cover girl, the infectiously giddy Elle Fanning, was definitely one of them. I fell in love with this genuine and uniquely stylish young person when I interviewed her in LA… She is even more likeable—if that is possible—in person.”

In the interview for the magazine’s inaugural issue, Elle reveals how she and her sister got their start in the business. “I guess my mum saw us playing around the house and creating these really in-depth characters” Fanning said. “My sister was older so she would always be the mum and I would be her kid. We would pretend we were homeless people and move around the house as though we were looking for shelter—we would always end up in the pantry. My parents would be like, ‘What are they doing in the pantry?’ and we’d be shivering, completely in character.”

The first-ever print edition of Miss Vogue Australia is on sale now. To download the Miss Vogue app, visit the App Store here.
