Dwyane Wade’s New Li-Ning Way Of Wade 2 Is Inspired By Old World War I Boat Designs

Sneaker designers use just about everything for inspiration. Most of them look at the type of game that a specific athlete has and use that for their main inspiration when designing a signature sneaker. But outside of that, they also use all kinds of other things to design sneakers for athletes. I remember when Chris Paul started running with the Jordan Brand, JB used everything from CP3′s love for bowling to his love for his grandfather when designing his first signature sneaker. But with that being said, Li-Ning Way of Wade 2 designer Eric Miller has really thought outside of the box and drawn inspiration from some strange places while designing Dwyane Wade‘s new signature sneaker.

So what did he use to create the Way of Wade 2? Well, according to a recent interview, he called on the design implemented on old World War I ships to help him design the Way of Wade 2. Those ships used a special camouflage called Dazzle Camo that allowed ships to stand out more than others. So he decided to use it in order to help the Way of Wade 2 stand out when compared with other sneakers.

“Dazzle Camo was painted on the body of ships in World War I as deceptive camouflage,” he said recently. “It didn’t blend you in, it made you stand out more. If you were the captain of a rival ship looking ahead, you could identify an oncoming ship that had this print, but you couldn’t tell what course it was, what speed it was going, or what direction it was going…And with Dwyane’s game, you don’t know if he’s going to pull up and shoot, if he’s going to drive and attack the rim, if he’s going to find his teammates. His game comes at you from all different angles and ways, but you can’t find it out…You’ll see this print throughout the season to tell that story.”

So there you have it. The Way of Wade 2′s deceptive Dazzle Camo design is going to be implemented to showcase Dwyane Wade’s deceptive game. Do you like that idea? Or do you think that it’s going to result in a sneaker with a cool back story but an unattractive design? Let us know in the comments section below. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the Way of Wade 2 when more details and photos of it become available.
