Is Stephon Marbury’s Starbury Sneaker Line About To Make A Comeback?

Submitted by on September 13, 2013 – 5:36 pm2 Comments

What ever happened to the Starbury line of sneakers that former NBA player Stephon Marbury put out a few years ago? We’re not sure if he ditched it when he went overseas to play in China, or if the stores that were carrying the sneaker line simply stopped carrying them. But either way, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen the Starbury sneakers out on the basketball court or on the feet of those walking around in New York City. And it’s sort of a shame. While the Starbury sneakers were hardly the most attractive things we’ve ever seen—and while they didn’t necessarily last very long—we had a soft spot in our hearts for Starbury sneakers. Marbury really wanted to make an impact by delivering a low-cost sneaker that was decent quality, and we think there was room in the sneaker market for that kind of sneaker.

In fact, we still think there is room in the market for a Starbury sneaker line. Which is why we were excited to see Marbury posting some images of new Starbury sneakers that he seems to be working on right now on Twitter recently. All indications are that the Starbury line is going to be back in stores at some point in the very near future. But is that a good thing?

We’re not sure yet. From what we see here, we’re not really blown away with what Marbury is looking to deliver this time around with the Starbury sneakers. We’re actually a little upset at a few of these silhouettes. For instance, what’s with the sneaker that looks like a bootleg Air Yeezy?! Ugh. We hope Marbury isn’t going to go that route with his sneakers. He needs to keep them simple and create affordable sneakers that don’t look like anything else that’s already out there on the market. That will be a win for him.

What do you think about the sneaker designs that you see above and below? Do you think it’s smart for Marbury to put out more Starbury sneakers? And would you actually purchase any of the sneakers that you see here? Regardless of what you think, it looks like Marbury is going to release something in the near future. It will be interesting to see what that something is and how people respond to it.
