Was This Brother & Sister Duo Wrong for Writing A Negative Obituary About Their Abusive Mother?

When Patrick Reddick heard that his mother had passed away recently, he didn’t cry. He didn’t break down and lose it. He didn’t even feel the slightest bit of sadness in his heart. Instead, he did something that you don’t expect someone to do after they find out that their mom is dead. He broke out into song and sang “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.” His sister Katherine Reddick had a similar reaction to the news and was overjoyed to hear about her mother’s passing.

And why were they both so happy? Well, it seems that Marianne Johnson-Reddick was abusive to her children. So Patrick and Katherine weren’t upset when she died. They were relieved. And they let the world know about it by writing a scathing obituary for their mother that proved just how much they disliked her.

“While she neglected and abused her small children,” it said, “she refused to allow anyone else to care or show compassion towards them. When they became adults, she stalked and tortured anyone they dared to love. Everyone she met, adult or child, was tortured by her cruelty and exposure to violence, criminal activity, vulgarity, and hatred of the gentle or kind human spirit.”

And they didn’t stop there. In the obituary, which was originally published in the Reno Gazette-Journal, they ripped their mother’s life apart further. “On behalf of her children whom she so abrasively exposed to her evil and violent life, we celebrate her passing from this earth and hope she lives in the after-life reliving each gesture of violence, cruelty, and shame she delivered on her children,” it said.

Our question: Did they go too far? Even if their mother was as evil as they say, should they have let her rest in peace by putting together a more traditional obituary and burying the hatchet with her when they laid her to rest? That’s really only for them to say. But it’s pretty amazing to read an obituary that displays just how much two kids hated their own mother.

You can read more about the obituary over here. Do you think that the Reddicks took things a little bit too far with their mother’s obituary?
