LeBron James Is The Most Popular NBA Player In The World, According To His Jersey Sales

LeBron James is #1…again. Back in April, Carmelo Anthony‘s New York Knicks jersey was ranked as the highest-selling jersey in the world. The reasoning: The Knicks were riding high off of a successful regular season and were gearing up for the playoffs. And all eyes were on Anthony, who was the unquestioned leader of the Knicks. However, now that James and his Miami Heat teammates have won their second straight NBA championship, there’s a new old sheriff in town. That’s because James has overtaken Anthony on the global jersey sales list and reclaimed the top spot on the list that he held prior to Anthony stealing his spot.

Surprised? Well, you shouldn’t be. While Anthony plays in the biggest market in America, James has gone global in a much bigger way and is undoubtedly the most popular player on the planet right now. Thanks to all of the touring he does with Nike during the summer months, James is getting his name out all over the globe and picking up more and more fans every day. As a result, his jersey is selling like crazy. And he’s appreciative of everyone who has purchased his jersey over the course of the last year or so.

“To know that so many people look up to me, so many kids, that’s what means more than anything, that I continue to inspire the youth and they look at me as a role model,” he said yesterday. “I understand, when you wear someone’s jersey, you actually, like, believe in them. You believe they can do supernatural things. It’s like an extension of our family and I really appreciate that.”

James isn’t the only player selling a ton of jerseys right now, though. Here are the other guys who topped the global list for jersey sales during the 2012-13 NBA season:

1. LeBron James

2. Derrick Rose

3. Kobe Bryant

4. Kevin Durant

5. Dwyane Wade

6. Carmelo Anthony

7. Dwight Howard

8. Deron Williams

9. Blake Griffin

10. Rajon Rondo

Are you surprised by any of the names that made the list? Did you think that anyone on the list would be higher? Lower? Not on the list at all? Leave us a comment below and let us know.
