Carrie, the freaky teenager with telekinetic powers from the infamous Stephen King novel of the same name, hailed from Chamberlain, Maine. But that didn’t stop her from wreaking havoc on a group of unsuspecting New Yorkers at a coffee shop in the West Village during one blockbuster of a Hollywood stunt.

Staged by Sony, the film studio behind the upcoming 2013 remake of the classic horror film Carrie, the prank was set up at the ‘sNice cafe on 8th Avenue in the West Village to spook up some publicity for the film. “People did freak out,” Nora Petroliunas, 29, a manager at ‘sNice cafe, told the Daily News. “It was funny to watch them react.”

Shot over two days, the stunt features actress Andrea Morales, who channels Carrie White by freaking out when another customer spills coffee all over her lapbook. She then does what any girl with psychic power would do: strangles him telepathically against a brick wall. Appearing to be unaware of her own powers, she lets out a blood curdling scream as books and tables go flying.

“We got some awesome reactions. Some people got really into it,” Morales, 27, told the Daily News. “A constructor worker actually came toward me to calm me down, saying everything was going to be okay.”

The prank was created by Manhattan-based marketing firm ThinkModo, who spent a day rigging the coffee shop. “There was not one person there whose eyes didn’t pop,” ThinkModo co-founder James Percelay said. “You see everything in New York, but you don’t see someone flying up a wall. I think the most jaded New Yorker was surprised.”

Watch the hilarious prank below and be sure to head to theaters when Carrie, which stars Chloë Moretz, opens on October 18.
