Anthony Hopkins Thinks Bryan Cranston’s Walter White Was The Best Acting “Ever”

Bryan Cranston‘s performance as Walter White on Breaking Bad has already earned him just about every accolade imaginable, and the show has been praised by everyone from Keith Richards to Oscar-nominee Darren Aronofsky. But the compliments went to a new level when Sir Anthony Hopkins sent a personal email to Cranston to commend him on a job well done.

Originally posted on the Facebook page of actor Steven Michael Quezada (Agent Gomez), but since taken down, the e-mail was verified by The Hollywood Reporter. In it, Hopkins says he just finished watching the entire run of the series in two weeks, and felt compelled to email Cranston immediately.

I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!

Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.

Hopkins also asks Cranston to extend his compliments to the entire cast, and assures Cranston that the praise is not just “blowing smoke.”

Hopkins and Cranston have both won several Emmys (two for Hopkins, three for Cranston, the latter all for Breaking Bad). Hopkins won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in 1991′s Silence of the Lambs.
