Kris Humphries Sells Kim Kardashian’s $2 Million Engagement Ring For A Measly $749,000
You can’t buy love, but that doesn’t mean you can’t profit from it.
Kris Humphries, who famously wed Kim Kardashian for only 72 days, sold the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s engagement ring in NYC on Tuesday for $749,000 at a Christie’s auction. The price tag might seem hefty, until you realize that the Lorraine Schwartz sparkler—a 16.21 carat emerald-cut diamond hugged by two 1.8 carat trapezoid-cut side diamonds—was rumored to be worth an estimated 2 million dollars.
“Kris is not losing money on the ring,” lawyer Lee Hutton said to the Daily News, referring to reports the ring had been worth $2 million (Kardashian’s ring was estimated to be worth between $300,000 and $500,000 by Christie’s). “It was something that was a part of the divorce, the dissolution agreement. Kris is pleased with the outcome of the sale and the fact he can give a portion of the proceeds to a deserving charity. He’s in the process of selecting the charity now.”
The couple officially divorced this past April and the 28-year-old former Nets baller is said to be ready to put this chapter of his life behind him. “I’m not sure if the ring or its sale helps with the process of moving on. I think he moved on long before the ring was even put into the auction,” Hutton said. “Kris, being an athlete, is getting ready for an upcoming season and ready for life’s lessons as they come along. This whole process was humbling but maturing.”
Kardashian, who has happily moved on with rapper Kanye West, is not surprised that her ex-husband sold what was once a symbol of their love. “Kim has been waiting for the day he would auction it,” a source told Us Weekly in September. “Everyone always asked what Kim did with the ring—she silently gave it back over a year ago! And Kris waited until the divorce was final to sell it.”
