Tina Fey And Amy Poehler To Host Golden Globes For Two More Years
Two of America’s best comedians and oldest friends are back together- for at least two more years. After positive reviews and a ratings bump, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have signed on to co-host the Golden Globes awards ceremony a least two more times.
“Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business, and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season,” said NBC president of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy. “We’re elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years.”
Poehler and Fey hosted the ceremony for the first time last January. It earned acclaim from fans, but perhaps more importantly to NBC, the duo drew a 28% increase in viewers aged 18-49.
Poehler and Fey quickly became the gold standard for hosting. Just months later, Seth MacFarlane and William Shatner made a joke about the popular hope that Poehler and Fey would host the Oscars during McFarlane’s much-maligned turn hosting the Academy Awards.
Fey has said she is not interested in hosting the Oscars.
The two also appeared on the last Emmys broadcast together, teasing host Neil Patrick Harris.
Poehler and Fey originally met at Chicago’s Second City improv theater in the 90′s. They were reunited in 2001 when Poehler joined the cast of SNL, where Fey had become a writer in 1997, and head writer in 1999.
Hopefully, their second Golden Globes will mean a sequel to Dog President.
