Glee Star Kate Hudson Reveals Her Secret To Staying Slim: “I Eat Everything. I Love Food, Bread, Pasta!”

Kate Hudson flaunts her taunt tummy and rock hard abs on the cover of Shape‘s November 2013 issue, but the 34-year-old actress admits she works hard to keep the weight off.

“I remember a few years ago I needed to lose some weight but just couldn’t drop these 15 pounds. My diet was a lot of raw foods and I thought, ‘Why am I so bloated?’ Turns out I was eating about 3,500 calories a day because I was constantly snacking on cashews,” she realized. “I don’t care how many people say it’s ‘good fat,’ that really got me.”

Now, Kate is meticulous about what she puts in her mouth…well, sort of. “I’ve eaten in all sorts of different ways over the years,” the mother of two reveals. “I like to do juice cleanses twice a year for five to seven days or food elimination cleanses where I just eat super clean. I got that app My Fitness Pal and kept track of everything I ate. Normally I’m at about 1,800 calories per day, but when I want to drop a few pounds I stick to 1,500. It’s the only way to do it. I have to be vigilant. That’s really the only time when I’m very strict. Other than that, I eat everything. I just love food. I love bread. I love pasta.”

Of course, Kate also credits her intense exercise regime for her stellar shape. “[I’ve been doing Pilates for] 15 years!” she said. “It’s the basis of what I do for exercise because it’s dance-oriented – and, as you saw at the shoot, I love to dance. It’s my creative outlet.”

“My heart is really in contemporary jazz, but lately I’ve been ballroom dancing with Derek Hough,” she said of the Dancing with the Stars star. “It’s been a real blast.”

For busy ladies on the go, Kate suggests this trick. “My new thing is that I always carry a jump rope with me,” she says. “Then, whenever I have a break during the day, I’ll just jump. I’ll do 150, take a short break, and then do another 150. I can either sit around looking at my phone, or I can jump!”

But despite her intense diet and exercise regimen, Kate knows exactly how she likes to relax.  “I’d sleep in for an extra three hours and hope my kids let me,” she said. “Next, I’d work out and take a sauna. Then I’d probably want to get in the pool with the kids. After that, I’d read, followed by watching Downton Abbey while eating a big bag of Pirate’s Booty. That would be my perfect day.”
