Apple Releases First Commercial For iPhone 5S
On the heels of reports that it is selling much better than its plastic cousin, the iPhone 5S got its first television commercial this week, emphasizing its (optional) gold coloring.
The 30-second spot, titled “Metal Mastered,” shows abstract liquid gold swirling into place, forming the phone- which is then activated using the new fingerprint scanner. It features the song “Ooh La La” by Goldfrapp.
The Verge notes that the commercial “seems to be a shortened version” of the footage from the unveiling last month. It is also similar to the earlier commercials for the 5C, which featured flying paint (or liquid plastic). The 5C commercials now feature “colorful” people using their colorful plastic handsets.
Recent reports revealed that the gold phone was nicknamed “the Kardashian” while it was being developed, but none of the eponymous sisters appear in this spot.
Apple reportedly recently cut orders for the 5C, while boosting them for the 5S. The 5C is higher priced than many investors had wanted for an entry-level iPhone, which was expected to be competitive in developing markets.
Apple is set for a major event tomorrow, where it will likely unveil a new iPad and iPad mini.
