TLC Are Timeless On The Cover Of V Magazine: “I’m Going To Be 85 Years Old With A Six Pack!”
Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas are crazy, sexy, and cool in the latest issue of V.
The surviving members of the four-time Grammy Award-winning girl group are back in the spotlight following the success of their recent VH1 film, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story. The biopic became the network’s highest-rated telecast in more than five years when it aired last month. Now with a new album in stores, a greatest hits collection aptly titled 20, the dynamic duo shows no signs of stopping.
“I’m going to be 85 years old, still with a six pack. I’m not playing. I’m going to have these abs until I go home to Jesus, ” Chilli says jokingly of her rock-hard physique before talking about TLC’s iconic sound and new music. ”I don’t think you can ever have enough records about self-esteem and loving yourself and not taking no crap, especially females. That girl-power thing is just missing [in music] right now. And it’s not like we’re in the studio trying to make songs like this—we’re naturally like that, so it naturally comes. We’re still being who we are. And by saying that, it’s going to help a lot of people. And that’s all we care about. We want jams to make you jam but at the same time make you think.”
T-Boz and Chilli put a lot of thought into making CrazySexyCool as accurate as possible. Both serving as Executive Producers, the woman worked tirelessly on making sure the choreography and costumes were just right.
“Lil Mama wore Lisa’s, because she was that size, but the other two girls are more top heavy, because, you know, we’re the tittiless crew, T-L-C, Titty-Less Crew, so those outfits had to be re-created,” explains Watkins, of the actress that starred as Left Eye in the film [Drew Sidora starred as T-Boz while Keke Palmer took on the role of Chilli]. “It was really, really weird. Especially with Lil Mama, because her real eyes are hazel and so they put these big, round black contacts in, like Lisa’s eyes. She looked up at me one time and I was like, ‘This is weird.’”
