Selena Gomez Dishes On Dating: “I’m The Girl You Take Home To Your Parents, Not For The Night!”
Selena Gomez is a four-star diva on the cover of the December 2013 issue of Teen Vogue. The 21-year-old actress may be known best for her starring role on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, but Selena is trying to solidify her status as a bonafide pop star with the success of her first solo album, Stars Dance.
“I’m 21, so now I’ve entered the decade of confusion about who I am and what I want to do with my life and that’s what this entire decade’s going to be,” Selena says. “The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve learned that I have to open myself up to all opportunities. Maybe I’ll get burned and not meet the right people, but I won’t know until I do it. I like to say I have a good sense of judgment, but I know that not everybody does.”
One person Selena can always count on is her megastar best friend Taylor Swift.
“The difference between Taylor and me is she was sixteen with the confidence of a 25-year-old,” Gomez gushes about the country singer. “Actually, I should say 80-year-old, because she’s such an old soul. I was not that way. I was very sheltered until about eighteen or nineteen. I still live at home, and I’m 21! She does inspire me like crazy, but I wouldn’t change my path, because it allowed me to figure out all that stuff and do it on my own.”
Sadly, not all of the singer’s relationships are going so well. Selena suffered a high-profile break from R&B crooner Justin Bieber, but she isn’t letting that stop her from being a hopeless romantic.
“You fall in love and it completely consumes you,” Gomez tells the magazine. “So a part of you is broken when that’s gone. And part of you wants to have that rebellious feeling where you’re just like, forget it—I can do anything I want. I’ve tried it, and I’ve never been that girl. I’m always going to be the girl you want to take home to your parents, not for the night.”
Without a boyfriend to distract her from her star status, Selena keeps busy by focusing on another one of her passions. “My attention span is all over the place, and I over-think things,” Gomez said. “I’m an insomniac. Dancing allows me to go away and not have to think of what I’m doing next. That is the opportunity for me to really escape.”
