Can You Believe What Derek Jeter Is Going To Be Doing Once He’s Finished Playing Baseball?
What do you think Derek Jeter is going to do once he retires from Major League Baseball? Fly to an exotic island somewhere and disappear forever? Move into a mansion with a bunch of fly women and turn himself into the second coming of Hugh Hefner? Buy the New York Yankees and continue his reign in the Bronx? Hmmm…Sadly, no, no, and, eh, probably not. Rather, Jeter apparently has his sights set on competing in a much, much different arena. And you’re probably going to be a little bit surprised by it.
Jeter very well could go in one of the directions we mentioned above. But instead, he just announced that he is starting his own publishing division called Jeter Publishing through a partnership with Simons & Schuster. That’s right. Derek Jeter, the legendary baseball player, is going to get involved with publishing! He started thinking about what he wants to do after playing baseball during his injury-riddled 2013 MLB season, and he ultimately decided that he wants to make a name for himself in publishing. Thus, Jeter Publishing was born.
“I think this sort of sets the blueprint for post career,” he said late last week. “This is a great way to start.”
So is this going to be what Jeter does once he hangs his cleats up for good? Is he going to head to an office in midtown Manhattan every morning, sit in his corner office, and read books? We doubt it. We’re sure this is just one of the many things that he will get involved in when he calls it quits. But it sounds like this is something that he’s motivated to do right now. So who knows? Jeter already made a name for himself in the world of baseball. Maybe he’s going to publish The Great American Novel next. It’s not quite as awesome as opening the next Playboy Mansion. But it’s good to hear Jeter has come to terms with the fact that he’s not going to play baseball forever.
