San Diego’s most iconic newsman is used to sunny, warm climates. But this week, Ron Burgundy headed out to North Dakota. Actor Will Ferrell portrayed Burgundy throughout an entire newscast at Bismarck’s KXMB TV.

The appearance was likely a promotion for the upcoming Anchorman 2, which comes out in just over two weeks. Burgundy has been making numerous appearances in real life- he has created a series of ads for the Dodge Durango SUV, appeared on Conan, commented on his own Ben & Jerry’s flavor (Scotchie Scotch Scotch), bicycled through Amsterdam with Daft Punk, and this weekend also contributed color commentary to the Canadian Olympic curling trials.

An imposter Ron Burgundy also delivered an entire sportscast at a local news station in Boise, Idaho on Halloween. But this was the real deal.

Burgundy did his fair share of mugging in Bismarck: after saying she looked beautiful, he asked co-anchor Amber Schatz if she was married. When she said no, Burgundy responded, “Well I am, so don’t get any ideas.”

He also remarked that he could call a sheriff’s deputy a dummy and get away with it, and expressed surprise at a fight that broke out on the ice at a recent Bruins game.

“I’ve never seen fighting in a hockey match before. That was fascinating,” said Burgundy.

But perhaps more surprising was the majority of the broadcast, when the sometimes unpredictable newscaster just read the news.

Burgundy did seem to defy expectations at the end. Signing off, Schatz tried to prompt Burgundy’s signature line, “Stay classy.”

“What? Am I supposed to read that?” He said instead.

Anchorman 2 debuts nationwide on December 18.
