Is there anything JGL can’t do? The all-singing, all-dancing, crime-fighting heartthrob Joseph Gordon-Levitt is now coming out with a 30-minute variety show, created in collaboration with thousands of artists all over the world, which he will host. The Don John writer/director/star offered audiences their first peak at hitRECord on TV in a trailer released last week:

If this is any indication, the new program will include short films, cartoons, lots of music, dancing with Tony Danza, an interview with legendary director John Waters- and more JGL in a slim-fitting dark suit than you can handle.

The television show is an extension of the hitRECord website, which Gordon-Levitt started with his brother, a professional fire dancer, in 2004. Initial, it was a place for them to post videos and other content they were working on, and invite feedback. Then, they invited others to post content, and/or to remix content posted on the site.

The site has released several books of work created collaboratively, two music CDs, and short films screened at festivals like Sundance.

HitRECord on TV will air on Pivot, a cable networked that debuted in March and targets socially-engaged millennials. The network also airs the road-based talk show Raising McCain, starring Sen. John McCain‘s daughter Meghan, and a scripted series about a young William Shakespeare.

Gordon-Levitt isn’t the only young Hollywood multitasker to host a cable show recently. Over the summer, James Franco announced an unscripted series about art to air on the Ovation network.

HitRECord on TV premieres on Jan. 18. Will you tune in?
