Do You Like The New Look Of These FILA 96 “Varsity” Sneakers?

There’s nothing particularly new about the FILA 96 sneakers. As you can probably tell by the name of the sneakers, they have been around now for about two decades now. And while FILA has re-released the sneakers on several occasions, they haven’t really transformed the look of the sneaker very much over the years. That is, until now…

At first glance, the FILA 96 “Varsity” sneakers that you see here might not look all that different from the other FILA 96 sneakers that you have come to know and love. But the “Varsity” sneakers that FILA just created are meant to mimic the look and feel of varsity jackets. FILA did this by adding chenille fabric to the sneakers—the same kind of fabric that’s typically found on a varsity jacket. It’s a relatively subtle change, and we’re betting that most people won’t even notice the “Varsity” aspect of this sneaker unless they’re literally holding these FILA 96 sneakers in their hands. But by simply replacing the patent leather that’s usually found on the FILA 96 with chenille, FILA has given the FILA 96 an upgrade.

Take a closer look at the FILA 96 “Varsity” in the images below. You can see the chenille in the FILA trapezoid and on the hangtag that comes attached to the sneakers. Do you think that it was a good idea for FILA to add the “Varsity” aspect to this sneaker—or do you think that it was a whole lot of extra effort for a change that ultimately will go unnoticed by most people?

If you’re interested in picking up a pair of FILA 96 “Varsity” sneakers for yourself, they will be available on December 12 through FILA.com and select FILA retailers. They’re going to be available on a very limited basis, though, so if you’re interested in getting a pair, you’re going to need to act fast. Are these going to be on your radar later this week?
