Should The NBA Allow Fans To Vote Kobe Bryant To The All-Star Team This Season?

Kobe Bryant is not an NBA All-Star this season.  And that’s not a knock against him. Not at all. Thing is, Kobe hasn’t played enough yet this season to prove that he’s an All-Star. He missed the first month-plus of the 2013-14 NBA season while rehabbing the torn Achilles that he suffered at the end of last season and trying to get back into game shape. And then, shortly after returning, he suffered a fracture in his knee and was ruled out for another six weeks. So unfortunately for Los Angeles Lakers fans, Kobe hasn’t been on the court much so far this season. And he hasn’t been able to prove that he still has what it takes to be considered an NBA superstar.

Unfortunately, though, the NBA All-Star voting system doesn’t take any of this into account. The NBA doesn’t tell fans who they can and can’t vote for when it comes time to vote for All-Stars. So as of right now, Kobe Bryant is slated to be a starter for the Western Conference in the 2014 NBA All-Star Game. And he’s actually received the second-most votes for the All-Star Game in the Western Conference even though he hasn’t really given fans any reason to vote for him this season. As a result, it’s pretty obvious that the All-Star voting is a popularity contest and that Kobe probably could have sat out the entire season and still made the All-Star team.

So what needs to be done? Well, for starters, we are not suggesting that Kobe shouldn’t be on the All-Star team at all. If he can play and he wants to play, he should take part in the game. It’s good for the NBA. But the NBA needs to put some sort of limitations on who NBA fans can and cannot vote for when it comes to the All-Star Game. Or at the very least, they need to make guys like Kobe ineligible for the starting lineup. Because at the moment, there are quite a few guys in the Western Conference who definitely deserve more votes than Kobe. But because of the current voting system that the NBA has in place, it doesn’t matter. And that doesn’t sit real well with us.

Do you think that Kobe Bryant deserves to be an All-Star this season? Or do you agree with us and think that he should be ineligible for the All-Star Game because of the injuries that have kept him out for most the season?

kobe definitely belongs in the all star game. Kobe is “THE FLARE OF THE GAME” the all star game is about the highest skill sets in the league BEING PUT ON ONE COURT AT THE SAME TIME. not necessarily players who play on teams with the best team records or best statistical players or most efficient players. people wanna see a show and people wanna see flare. and that’s wat the all star game is about. the dunk contest has proven that over and over again for yrs…….. and just like the dunk contest, the all star game will forever be watered down wen kobe leaves the game. think back to the few times kobe didn’t play in the all star game because of injury. dwade won in dallas a game mvp, and LeBron james won the other 2. nobody cared or remembers those games. why, because people don’t remember stats. PEOPLE REMEMBER THE MOMENT. THE OOOH AND AHS OF THE GAME.
