Jay-Z’s Collaboration With Barneys Generates Over A Million In Profits

Despite being shrouded by controversy, Jay-Z‘s collaboration with Barneys has generated over a million dollars in profits. According to the NY Daily News:

“A source close to Barneys said figures were being tallied on Friday, the last day of sales, but profits had exceeded the million-dollar mark.”

Jay was heavily criticized for not backing out of the deal with Barneys because of two headline-making incidents of racial profiling that occurred at the high end retailer. Instead of walking away from the deal, the hip-hop mogul moved forward with the collaboration, explaining in a statement, “The easy position would have been to walk away and leave policymaking to others hoping that someone addresses the problem. I will take this into my own hands with full power to recommend, review and revise policies and guidelines moving forward. I am choosing to take this head on.”

As a result of Jay’s decision, his Shawn Carter Foundation can add $1 million to its budget since Jay and Barneys pledged that the organization, which offers scholarship opportunities to any under-served student across the United States who desires a higher education, would get 100% of the collection’s profits.
