Kate Winslet Defends Not Naming Her Son “RocknRoll” In Glamour: “Judge All They Like, But I’m A F—— Grown Up!”
Kate Winslet is a grown woman and she can do whatever she wants!
Taking a cue from Beyoncé, the 38-year-old appears flawless on Glamour UK‘s February 2014 issue, popping her collar in a sky blue trench coat. Inside the magazine, the Academy Award-winning actress isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Winslet, who gave birth to her third child, son Bear, on December 7, 2013, opened up about the criticism she has since received surrounding her baby boy’s name.
“We haven’t ever really had that conversation; it was always going to have my name,” Kate explained of her son taking her surname and not that of the father Ned RocknRoll, the nephew of Richard Branson. “Mia and Joe (Kate’s first two children with ex-husbands Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes) have it as part of their name, so it would be weird if this baby didn’t. Of course we’re not going to call it RocknRoll. People might judge all they like, but I’m a f—— grown-up.”
While new moms have like Kim Kardashian and Amber Rose have been quick to flaunt their post-baby bodies, Kate says she has other things on her mind. “Having just had a baby, I’m not going to be thinking about my arse,” she confesses. Instead, the star is readying for the release of her latest film Labor Day. “[It's] a part I could not have played had I not been a parent. Ultimately, I was drawn to it because it’s a film about the desire for a family—and family has played such a role in my life. It’s my core, really.”
But despite being one of Hollywood’s leading ladies, Kate still has doubts about the state of her career. “Acting is bloody scary,” she says. “I still have moments when I think, ‘I can’t do this—everybody thinks I’m absolutely shit.’”
Labor Day hits theaters in the U.S. on January 31 and in the U.K. on February 7. Check out the trailer below and read Kate’s full interview in this month’s Glamour, on newsstands now.
